PCS WAGON (BLUE CIRCLE)

This example shows how to weather a Blue Circle wagon to create stains running down from the filler hatches and with weathering near the undercarriage and around projections like the handholds. Take a look at the image of a real wagon here.

1

Clean wagon - Un Weathered

2

Spray Mud or Oil Brown.

3

Wipe or smudge the dye a slightly damp tissue. Don't remove dye where you want weathered staining to be. Leave these areas untouched. The more coats that are applied on top of each other the darker these areas become. You can stop here, this has taken a minute or so and looks pretty good, but the stain marks would need to be wiped better to make them straighter (see the real wagon by clicking here). I will do more weathering (below), but it is not really necessary. This is weathered enough.

4

I have finished wiping the dye off now. Here is one of the stain marks - I have not wiped the dye off in this area. I have also left dye on other parts of the model that I would like to have more weathered.

5

Re-spray with Mud or Oil Brown. You can see its getting darker where I have sprayed over the top of the dye that was not wiped off.

6

Wipe off again, but leave the dye untouched where you want the weathering stain marks. Also, leave it on where you would like darker weathering, perhaps around the upper filler hatch, hand grips and along the bottom of the wagon.

7

After spraying wiping 2 times this is now really dark. The more applied, the darker it gets.

8

I left the dye in this area and it's also getting quite dark now.

9

Re-spray a little more. This time I have used some Sand Brown and a little Rusty Red. It's nearly there, just have to do the fine work now.

10

Gently remove the dye to get the detail you are after. A cotton bud is often best thing to use at this time.

11

Make final adjustments. Very gently dab the surface with a tissue that is only very, very slightly damp to soften and blend in the weathering.

12

This is how I have left it for the moment, but if I want it more or less dirty I can add some more Mud or Oil Brown and wipe and smudge some more.
