Spraying Puddles, Then Wiping The Dye

1

Unsprayed Wagon - This is an excellent wagon for spraying. It shows the colour really well and is very durable.

2

Spray a puddle of dye onto the wagon. Do not press the nozzle hard, just very gently to release just a small splattering of spray. Keep it pressed until a large puddle has been formed. Now - let it dry for at least 5 to 10 minutes, but maybe more. It has to be completely dry for this to work.

3

Now the puddle of spray has fully dried. Using a very slightly damp tissue, wipe off the some of the dye. Sometimes a little pressure has to applied. If no dye is coming off, then make the tissue a little damper. If water comes out of the tissue when you press it against the surface, then it is too wet. The idea is to remove just the surface deposit of dye, leaving the rest of it trapped in the board joints and stanchions. You may have noticed that I already sprayed other parts of this wagon.

4

Halfway through the wiping process. You can see the dye being removed.

6

Now wipe again, but this time wipe just where you want to remove the remaining dye. I am taking it off the stanchion to the side. See the dye on the tissue.

7

Press and wipe just where you want to remove the dye.

8

There is still a little too much dye left, so I will try again.

10

Press and wipe just where you want to remove the dye. This can be very detailed process, the dye can be removed in small areas at a time.

11

That has removed most of the dye and I am happy with the result, so I will move to the other side and take so dye off there.

12

Press hard and wipe just where you want to remove the dye.

13

The dye has come off the surface, but stayed in the cracks. This is the effect I was after.

14

This is the final result.

15

The final result from a different angle. Perhaps I should have taken a little more off the first stanchion, but I can do that at any time in the future so I will stop for now.

Finished

The final result again. The tissue was only just damp, so most of the dye has stayed in the plank groves and around any protrusions. Wiping off on this side took about 10 minutes from the time the spray was fully dry. Usually I would spray puddles on one whole side at a time and not do just one section at a time.
